Intercessory Prayer Ministry Guidelines

The Shepherd’s House Church has instituted an Intercessory Prayer Ministry to further the  Church vision of equipping the body for His glory by engaging in Spirit led intercession for the Church  ministry, Pastors, and members, along with issues impacting the Kingdom of God.

I Principles

  1. Submission. The Intercessory Prayer Ministry is a ministry of the Shepherd’s House Church and  is under the authority and direction of the Pastors.

  2. Faith. Intercessors will confess and demonstrate Biblical faith.

  3. Unity. Intercessors will strive to maintain Christian unity within the intercessory team, the  Church, and the Body of Christ.

  4. Faithfulness. Intercessors will be faithful to meet regularly in intercession and attend the  Church.

  5. Blessing. Intercessors will bless and not curse.

  6. Trustworthiness. Intercessors will hold all confidential information received in strict  confidence.

  7. Perseverance. Intercessors will continue in prayer until the answer comes.

  8. Humility. Intercessors will remain humble, recognizing that spirituality is revealed by Fruit of the Spirit, not the Gifts of the Spirit.

II Protocol

  1. Arrive on time, prayed up and ready to flow.

  2. Stay on point. Please allow plenty of time and opportunity for the group to fully “Pray through” a  topic. Usually, we flow in the Spirit and are led to pray what the Holy Spirit gives for prayer before changing to new topic

  3. Please be aware of the length of your prayer. On average 2 to 3 minutes is long enough to read a scripture and pray on the topic. Then yield the floor to allow others to join in. You can always  take another turn on the same topic.

  4. Intercessory prayer times are focused outward. We will generally pray for needs of Intercessors after the meeting.

III Practices

  1. Pray in prayer language group

  2. Singing in the spirit

  3. Stay in the Spirit during body ministry time in services - avoid talking or visiting - go  to foyer if you need to converse. You’re a leader – be a good example. Keep the anointing in place by engaging in worship.

  4. Leave space for “Holy Hush”.

    • This can be at the beginning of prayer time or in the middle/end for different reasons.  God will move, minister, and/or reveal direction for prayer or ministry.

  5. Avoid manipulative, soulish prayers

IV Plan

  1. Secure, Maintain, Strengthen

    • Begin with the Core Group of Intercessors.

  2.  Expand within the Church

    • Increase level of prayer and depth of prayer. Explain apostolic level prayer needed to match Rich’s, to walk with him in prayer.

  3.  Expansion outside – Response to Shift

    •  Prayer evangelism, prayer walks, community outreaches to bring in the harvest

  4. Kingdom Unity

    • Partner with Kingdom prayer groups, churches, and ministries to impact the city, state,  nation, and world.

Pat Allen, Director of Intercessory Prayer

Pat rededicated her life to Jesus in 1984 and moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area with her husband Ron. Pat became involved in the prayer ministry at her church, first becoming the  leader of the church’s House of Prayer and then becoming the leader of the prayer ministry. She formed a city-wide interdenominational prayer group which worked with pastors to  intercede for their churches. She also led intercessory prayer journeys in the United States, Israel, Italy, France, England, Ireland, and China, writing about her ministry in a chapter in the book Giving Ourselves to Prayer.

From 2000 until 2018, Pat was the National Prayer director for the Mission America  Coalition, a ministry coalition founded by Billy Graham and Bill Bright. In addition to praying for  the ministry, Pat organized prayer rooms to intercede on site at their annual meetings. Pat also  organized onsite intercessory prayer for many other ministries, including national leadership conferences for Catholic Charismatics, National Evangelism Conferences for the Episcopal  Diocese of Dallas, local church conferences, and United in Christ International.

Pat met Matteo Calisi with her husband Ron in 1995 and participated in founding United  in Christ International in 2001, where she serves as Director of Intercessory Prayer. Her understanding of the dynamics of bringing intercessors of different streams together in prayer led to united effective prayer. For example, at the United in Christ 2019 Kairos Conference, she brought Catholic Charismatics, Messianics, Episcopalians, Pentecostals, Baptists, and  Evangelical Charismatics together.

Pat and her husband Ron live in Lewisville, Texas, and have four adult daughters and four grandchildren.
